Privacy
Your words stay with you.
Worde and Worde Arabic are dictionaries that work entirely on your phone, on iPhone and on Android.
In the apps
Worde does not have accounts or analytics. The dictionary, pronunciations, pictures and quotations are part of the app, so looking up a word sends nothing over the internet.
What you do in Worde stays on your device: your recent searches, saved words, notes, themes and learning progress. Worde does not send this information to us or to anyone else. Your phone’s own backup (iCloud, or your Google account’s backup on Android) may include it, as it does for other apps, if you have backups turned on. Deleting the app deletes it from the phone.
If you turn on the daily word reminder, Worde schedules a notification on your device. You can turn reminders off in Worde or in your phone’s settings. Words are spoken by the voices built into your phone.
Ads
On Android, Worde is free and paid for by a small banner at the foot of word pages, served by Google AdMob; you can hide it for a day by watching a short video. To show ads, AdMob receives your device’s advertising ID, IP address and information about the device and the app, as described in how Google uses information from apps that use its services. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Worde asks for your consent before any personalised ads, and you can change your choice at any time under You › Privacy choices. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone’s settings. The words you look up, save or review are never shared with AdMob or anyone else.
On this website
This site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, which receives your device’s IP address when it serves them. A choice of light or dark appearance is remembered in your browser and never leaves it.
If you join the waitlist, the email address you enter is sent to the service that keeps the list, and used only to tell you when Worde is available.
This page describes Worde as it works today, and will be updated if that changes.
